| Light a lamp for peace
As tensions remain high between the United States and Iran, participants in a MCC-led delegation to Iran in February are urging congregations to light oil lamps as a reminder to pray for peace and for the people of Iran. The delegation, co-sponsored by MCC and American Friends Service Committee, met with the Iranian president, a former president and other political and religious leaders in Iran in February. At the end of each meeting, the U.S. group presented Iranian leaders with ceramic oil lamps, made by Indiana potter Dick Lehman, as well as quilted wall hangings. Ron Flaming, MCC's director of international programs, said delegation members told leaders that the Bible calls on Christians to remember the leaders of the world with prayer and that the lamps signified a promise to remember Iran and its leaders.
Terry and Lamps on the Quadruple!
A lot of talk has taken place recently with regard to the possibility of winning an unprecedented quadruple of trophies. Indeed, the media seem undecided which deserves the more column inches, the possibility of us winning a quadruple or of United winning a second treble. "We have to keep believing we can win all four." "We certainly believe in each other.
Dutch Philips beats Q1 profit forecast, sales slow
Dutch Philips Electronics beat analysts' forecasts on Monday with a first-quarter operating profit, but sales were below expectations due to slower TV and monitor sales as well as Latin American weakness. Philips's earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) came in at 292 million euros ($395.6 million) compared with an average forecast of 267 million euros by 15 analysts polled by Reuters. EBIT in the year-earlier period was 335 million euros. Revenues fell more than expected to 5.99 billion euros from 7.37 billion euros a year earlier, and compared with an average analyst forecast of 6.14 billion euros. Philips is the world's biggest lighting maker, a top three hospital equipment maker and a top five consumer electronics producer. Sales and profits were hit by the sale of the company's semiconductor business late last year, and on a comparable basis EBIT increased by 46 million euros.
